Msgr. Prof. Ike appointed SUMAS Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council

Monsignor Professor Doctor Obiora Francis Ike has been appointed the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Enugu State-owned State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, SUMAS, Igbo-Eno, Enugu State.

Governor Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi, who is the Founder and Visitor to the University, also approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Oba Doctor Francis Olushola Alao, as the Chancellor of the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, SUMAS, Igbo-Eno, Enugu State.

The announcement of the two appointments approved by Governor Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi, pursuant to Sections 1 and 2 of the first schedule of the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, SUMAS, Igbo-Eno, Laws of Enugu State, No. 1, 2022, was contained in a Statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya.

The Statement noted that the two appointments took effect from Monday, May 22, 2023.

Professor Monsignor Doctor Obiora Francis Ike, since May 2021, also functions as the Pro-Chancellor of the Plateau State University, PLASU Bokkos, owned by Plateau State. He is, therefore, double Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of two State universities in Nigeria.

Monsignor Professor Doctor Obiora Francis Ike is the President and Founder of the thirty-eight years (1986) in existence first Ethics Institute – Catholic Institute for Development Justice and Peace, CIDJAP, Enugu, and also the Chairman of the Board of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu-owned twenty-seven years old (1995) largest bank – Umuchinemere Procredit Micro Finance Bank, UPMFB Limited.

He is presently the Chairman of the Enugu State Economic Advisory Committee and a member of the Enugu State 2023 Governorship Transition Committee, overseeing Talent Hunt Recruitment for the new Government.

He is the immediate past Executive Director of Globethics.net based in Geneva, Switzerland, and has served on the International Board of Globethics since 2023. Ike was also recently appointed a Member of the Board of Trustees of Veritas Foundation of Veritas University, Abuja.

The SUMAS Igbo-Eno, Enugu State newly appointed Chancellor, His Royal Majesty Oba Francis Olusola Alao, the Olugbon of Ile-Igbon, Oyo State, was born June 1963, in Ibadan, to the family of Pastor and Pastor Mrs. Amos Okunola Alao.

He was later taken to Northern Nigeria by his parents for his primary and secondary school education. He thereafter proceeded to the University of Liberia, where he bagged a Bachelor of Science, BSc, in Accounting.

He started his career at a Chartered Accounting firm in Liberia and served in the firm for two years before floating his own private company as a contractor. He was a sub-contractor to ECOMOG for the importation of food.

In Nigeria, he has been a contractor to major military formations in the Nigerian Military of Defence, such as the Defence Intelligence Agency.

His company also specialises in telecom infrastructure and deployment and is a contractor to MTN and AIRTEL, deploying communication masts and fibre optics nationwide. He established the Oyo Towers in Oyo State, a telecoms infrastructure company on the PPP Platform.

His Royal Majesty Oba Olisola Francis Alao is a bridge-builder with connections across religious, military, social and business circles.

The newly appointed Chancellor of the State University of Science and Applied Sciences SUMAS Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, is a first-class Oba in Oyo State.
