Msgr. Obiora Ike Delivers Keynote at Launch of Enugu's Ambitious Smart School Project

On 5th June 2024, the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, initiated a groundbreaking project called the Smart School Project. This endeavour aims to transform the educational landscape across Enugu's 260 wards by incorporating advanced technology into the classroom. Each smart school will feature modern infrastructure, including solar power, internet connectivity, robotics and AI centres, and interactive digital whiteboards, ensuring students are well-equipped for the digital age.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project also emphasises environmental sustainability. The smart schools will include solar power systems, medical clinics, and integrated smart farms to support experiential learning. These facilities will not only enhance the educational experience but also foster environmental stewardship among students.

Msgr. Obiora Ike, a renowned human rights advocate and cleric, was invited as the keynote speaker for the United Nations Commission event celebrating the launch of this project. His participation highlighted the international significance of Enugu State's commitment to comprehensive educational reform.

Governor Mbah underscored the government's dedication by allocating 30% of the 2024 budget to education. This substantial investment is part of a broader strategy to elevate the state's GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion by 2031, placing education at the core of economic growth and development.

The Smart School Project aims to address high dropout rates and ensure that all children, regardless of their socio-economic status, receive a quality education. This initiative has garnered praise from various civil society organisations and international entities for its innovative approach and commitment to sustainable development.
