On 1st July 2026, the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) formally invited Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike, Founder and Director of CIDJAP to serve as Chairman of the Opening Ceremony of the forthcoming Southeast Human Rights Bureau Launch, scheduled to take place in Enugu on 23rd and 24th July 2026.
The two-day event will also feature the unveiling of an Open Source Reporting Platform and a training programme for Human Rights Defenders drawn from across the five South-East States. The initiative is aimed at strengthening human rights protection, improving accountability, expanding civic space, and promoting justice-based governance in the region.
In the invitation letter, RULAAC commended Msgr. Ike for his outstanding contributions during the SouthEast Stakeholders Summit on Peace, Security, and Human Rights Violations held in February 2025, noting that his reflections on justice, peace, dialogue, fairness, and equity significantly shaped the resolution that led to the establishment of the Bureau.
The organisers described him as a respected voice in peacebuilding, interfaith dialogue, and social justice, stating that his leadership would add depth and credibility to the historic launch.
The event is expected to attract stakeholders from across Nigeria and will run from 22nd to 24th July 2026.
