The 2024 Christmas Retreat organized by the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP) was a spiritually enriching event that left an indelible mark on all participants. Anchored by Rev. Fr. Madueke Vincent, the retreat took place on the 17th of December, 2024 at the serene Ofuobi African Center, Independence Layout, Enugu, on a day filled with grace, reflection and spiritual rejuvenation.
The retreat commenced with the solemn exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, setting a reverent and prayerful tone for the day. The CIDJAP family gathered in quiet adoration, allowing the presence of Christ Jesus in the Eucharist to fill their hearts and minds. This sacred moment provided an opportunity for deep introspection, offering a calm and holy atmosphere that prepared everyone for the retreat’s subsequent activities.
Rev. Fr. Madueke Vincent delivered an inspiring retreat talk. His words were both profound and relatable, urging participants to embrace the essence of Christmas as a time for spiritual growth, forgiveness, and love.
He highlighted the importance of living out the virtues of faith, hope, and charity, reminding everyone that the season of Christmas is not just a celebration but a call to embody Christ’s mission in daily life. The talk resonated deeply with all present, sparking moments of quiet reflection and collective resolve to live more meaningful Christian lives.
Following the talk, there was an opportunity for Confession, a sacrament that provided a path for reconciliation and inner peace. Participants approached the confession with open hearts, seeking God’s mercy and forgiveness. The highlight of the retreat was the Holy Mass, celebrated with great solemnity by Rev. Fr. Madueke.
The liturgy was a moment of unity and thanksgiving as participants offered their prayers and intentions to God. The homily reinforced the themes of the retreat, calling on everyone to remain steadfast in their faith and committed to their journey with Christ.
After the spiritual activities, participants gathered for a group photograph, capturing the joy and togetherness of the day. The day concluded with a time of refreshment, participants had enough to eat, drink and engaged in light-hearted conversations led by Mr. David. This moment of fellowship was a fitting end to the retreat, reinforcing the bonds of friendship and unity among the CIDJAP family.
