The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a Germany-based development agency that provides services in the field of international development cooperation, together with Brot für die Welt and the International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD), organised a roundtable in Brussels, Belgium to put Religion and Development on the European agenda.
Globethics.net, as an implementing partner of Brot für die Welt and a member of PaRD, was invited to attend the event alongside representatives from the United Nations (UN) and European Union (EU) organisations.
Among the topics discussed at the event was the empowerment of women, minorities, religious literacy, conflict prevention, mediation and post-conflict resilience. Representing Globethics.net, Dr Obiora Ike spoke about the importance of ethics in the framework of development.
The conference highlighted the need to explore new coalitions and partnerships to involve more EU member state representatives, government development agencies and members of the private sector. It also underscored the importance of exploring new avenues for this discussion, such as already existing forums and bilateral meetings and events.
