The Catholic Institute for Development, Justice, and Peace (CIDJAP) marked its 38th founding anniversary with a significant thematic conference held from October 3rd to 4th, 2024, at the Ofuobi Africa Conference Centre in Enugu. The conference focused on two critical topics: "Speedy Dispensation of Criminal Justice in Nigeria: Role of Society" and "Influence of Popular Culture and Media on the Growth of Neo-Paganism among the Christian Population in the Southeast."
The event brought together a wide range of participants, including members of the CIDJAP family, stakeholders, and prominent dignitaries. The distinguished attendees were Bishop Ernest Anezichhukwu Obodo, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, and Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike, the Founder and President-Director of CIDJAP. Rev. Fr. Prof. Ikechukwu Ani, the pioneer Deputy Director, and Chief Godwin Ike, the longest-serving CIDJAP staff member, were also present to commemorate the institution's legacy.
The conference served as a platform to explore key issues affecting Nigeria's criminal justice system, examining society's role in ensuring justice is delivered swiftly and fairly. It also addressed the growing influence of media and popular culture on religious practices, with a particular focus on how neo-paganism is affecting Christianity in the Southeast of Nigeria.
Various CIDJAP staff members and affiliates participated in the event, including those from Guardian Angels Motherless Babies Orphanage, St. Joseph's Primary School, Nazareth House Skills Acquisition Center, and Ave Maria Eye Specialist Hospital. The gathering also included staff and interns from CIDJAP's vocational training centres, healthcare personnel, and representatives from its rural healthcare initiatives.
The 38th-anniversary celebration highlighted CIDJAP’s long-standing commitment to promoting development, justice, and peace and reinforced its dedication to addressing societal challenges through education, advocacy, and action. The thematic conference underscored the institute’s ongoing efforts to foster ethical leadership, promote peace, and contribute to society's advancement through thoughtful discourse and impactful programs.
As CIDJAP continues to expand its mission, the anniversary event served as a reminder of the organization's enduring influence and its crucial role in shaping the future of social justice and development in Nigeria.
